    DEVORAH KOREK: CURRICULUM

Devorah Korek has been passionate for the oriental dance since 1978 and her book Belly Dance, the Art of Oriental Dancing (Oceano, 2005), in 300 pages, at its 4th edition, has been sold in more than 6000 copies in only 3 years. (For more information about the book and its content, click here).

As a result of her trajectory, she created her own method, “Sarabi” (Arabic for “My Mirage”). This method is the one she uses in her classes and in her teacher training program.
Devorah dedicated her life to dance: ballet when she was 6 years old, then claque and rhythmic gymnastics as a teenager. Her professional career started at 17 with Jazz dancing. One year later, she started her Oriental Dance studies.

After 8 years of intensive training at the well-known Cassandra Shore´s school, Devorah started giving classes on her own. Later she held Workshops in different cities across U.S., performing in different oriental dance and music groups, in the beginning as a dancer and later as artistic director and choreographer, such as Ethnic Dance Theatre, Oasis and E.A.O, with who she appeared at various international festivals.

During these years she also appeared in different documentaries and T.V. shows about Oriental Dance, directed a series of theatre plays called "Rhythms of 5 worlds" collaborating with professionals of other ethnic dance styles.

In Spain she is considered one of the belly dance first pioneers, opening her school in Barcelona in 1992.

Nowadays, the Sarabi school has more then 300 students and Devorah manages it together with her own dance company, acting on stage at different public, private and fund-raising events.
